Community Management

Spotify - Podcast Editorial

Spotify's Podcast Editorial team was tasked with creating a system of meaningful and human podcast recommendations. To do this, Spotify assembled a team of editors and experts to curate spaces filled with the best podcasts on the platform.

Once spaces on the app were curated, the team needed help to keep the conversation going. My job then became to create spaces that would encourage engagement and discovery based around the podcasts that my team was recommending. To do this, I created a loop between a forum and a Discord server to capture interested listeners, guide them to the right shows, and lead them to our community listening events.

To find success in what would become the Spotify Podcast Community, I needed to coordinate around the specializations and interests of all of the editors on our team as well as the overarching goals of listenership and engagement. I did this by creating tentpole content to bring the community together around certain podcasts, as well as smaller events to give each editor their chance to shine and share their favorite episodes.

Add in some audience acquisition and retention by collaborating with huge podcasters such Cole Cuchna of Dissect and the team from How to Save a Planet, and my team and I were able to create an active community that was eager to find their next listen.

Adobe Stock

The team at Adobe Stock brought me on to solve an interesting problem: How can a Stock agency get a leg up on competitors by cultivating a strong community?

Through a year on the team, I led the initiative to cultivate a community of Stock Contributors on Discord. Despite the challenges of introducing a new platform to an unfamiliar audience, we were able to build a thriving ecosystem that both served as an educational hub for contributors and generated valuable, relevant stock content.

Through weekly challenges meant to teach stock artists, coordinated webinars, keywording Q&A's, and all other manner of stock creation content, I was able to work with the Adobe Stock team to design a community meant to educate and support artists, regardless of where they were in their stock creation careers.

GawkBox

GawkBox was a gaming-adjacent startup that provided audiences new and unique methods of donating to their favorite content creators. By playing games, completing challenges, and working as a community, audiences using GawkBox could accrue meaningful support for their favorite streamers and YouTubers.

During my time at GawkBox, it fell on me to keep our ever-growing community informed and excited about our updates and developments.  Through our Discord community, I was able to bridge the gap between the company and our users by becoming the mouth piece of the organization. Through videos, blogs, and regular events and posts in our Discord community, I was able to effectively distribute announcements, live engagements, and product support.

Here are some thoughts from some of the content creators I've worked with.
